October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer
is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin
cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung
cancer.
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time
during her life is a little less 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer
is about 1 in 36. Breast cancer death rates have been going down. This is
probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and better treatment. Right
now there are more than 2½ million breast cancer survivors in the United
States.
For more information about breast cancer, how to find it early,
and how to join the fight to end the disease, visit cancer.org/fightbreastcancer or contact the
American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 anytime, day or night.

Breast Cancer In Men
The American Cancer Society estimates for breast cancer in men in the United States for 2013 are
About 2,240 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed
About 410 men will die from breast cancer
Breast cancer is about 100 times less common among men than among women. For men, the
lifetime risk of getting breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000. The number of breast cancer cases in men relative to the population has been fairly stable over the last 30 years.
Cooking for a Cure
Each Auxiliary was asked to decorate an Apron in the Colors of Cancer. Originally thought about doing a Dory fish with the words just keep swimming, but Cooking for a cure was the theme. So off to find something that was cute and fun, added stitching, paint, words, ribbon and a Buddy Poppy. We be able to see the other district Apron entries Sunday October 22. Really fun to be creative and our Apron turned out to be just too cute. Thinking about adding black fabric ears, that will move.
